Sofia Tumes
DIRECTOR
Welcome delegates!
My name is Sofía Tumes Salas and I'm pleased to be the director of UNICEF in this new edition of DLSMUN 2020. I'm currently 17 years old and I'm studying the second cycle of the International Relations degree at: Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC ). My main hobby for the last 3 years has been debating through the Model of United Nations, but I also enjoy singing and movies.
My career at MUN began in 2017 with my school, Santa María de la Providencia at PUCP MUN. Since then, I've devoted a great passion to this model of debate. In 2019 being my last year as a school delegate, I've participated as a member of Independent Students` Delegation (ISD) in various models that have allowed me to obtain Best Delegate. Throughout this career, I participated in models such as: PUCPMUN (2017-2018-2019), USIL MUN (2017-2018-2019), San Felipe MUN (2017-2018), USMPMUN (2017-2018), VCSP 2019 , Humboldt MUN, PRGMUN 2019 and Peru MUN 2019 in which I've been able to obtain various awards. In addition to this, I already had experience as deputy director of UNICEF in ChampsMUN 2019. Also, this year I've been Director of Internal Affairs for the first edition of ISDMUN, an independent delegation to which I belonged and supported.
The topic, “Challenges towards virtual education” had a great relevance today since as students we can experience daily how complex this new modality of education can be. With regard to the committee, the objective will be to watch over the infants, mainly those who are in a vulnerable situation. As director, I expect delegates with a great handling of the subject and determination at the moment of raising and proposing their ideas and positions. However, I hope that if you have any questions, you can contact me or a member of the board of directors. If you have a problem with the language, sit back, the important thing is that you can have a good time and enjoy the debate. I wish the best of luck, see you soon!
Director of UNICEF

Kiara Serrudo
SECRETARY DIRECTOR
Welcome delegates, my name is Kiara Gabriela Serrudo Alván and in this opportunity I have the honor to be the Secretary Director in this edition of DLS MUN 2020. I am from Trujillo and graduated from La Salle University in Arequipa. I am currently 18 years old and I am in my second year of International Business and Administration at La Salle University in Arequipa.
As far as MUN is concerned, I am an honorary member of the DLS Delegation, the delegation of the La Salle School in Arequipa, I am also a member of the Arequipa Debate, the first MUN Interinstitutional team in Arequipa and I am also part of the central team of the same; I participated as a member of the secretariat in MUNARE 2020. I have had the opportunity to participate as part of the board of directors in Innova Mun 2019 as director of the UN Habitat committee and I was the moderator in DLS MUN 2019 in the SOCHUM committee and MUNARE 2020 in the UNICEF committee. As a delegate, I usually participate in committees in English because I consider it a challenge to debate in a different language and at the same time I feel it is more exciting. I have had the opportunity to participate in the MUN SALLE 2017, Arequipa MUN organized by the Anglo-American Prescott School, MOGAP 18, DLS MUN 2018, PUCP MUN 2019, FDP MUN 2020 and in different internal simulations.
The situation we find ourselves in often makes effective communication and development of activities difficult, however, it is a joy for me to see that we have not let ourselves be defeated by adversity, we have reinvented ourselves, we have reinvented the MUN. We must feel proud to move forward and not let this passion die, the MUN opens many doors and helps us grow as people and develop or enhance skills, feel free to write to me if you have any questions about the study guide or any other topic, we are here to help you, at the end I will leave you my mail, I hope you enjoy and make the most of this experience and take a nice cyber memory, a hug from a distance, take care.

Adela Vela
MODERATOR
Dear delegates:
Welcome to DLSMUN 2020!
My name is Adela Vela, I’m 17 years old and currently I’m in my senior year of high school at De La Salle School. I’m very excited to be your moderator at the UNICEF committee in this edition of DLSMUN. I started doing MUN in 2017 and it became my passion . My experience has led me to realize the importance of promoting this activity in our world because of the incredible benefits and opportunities it offers. As you may realize at this point, one of my favorite hobbies is debating in Models of United Nations, but besides them, in my free time I like running, watching movies and Tv shows and I love traveling.
My MUN experience began when I participated for the first time in MUNSALLE 2017, a model that my school organized. I’ve developed a lot of my debating and soft skills since back then. I’ve experience in almost all the kinds of committees of the United Nations from General Assemblies, to the Security Council as well as from Regional Bodies to Specialized Agencies. I’ve been part of the DLS delegation since 2018, a great family that allowed, encouraged, supported and helped me to obtain Best Delegate on several occasions. Throughout all this years I’ve participated in models such as: PUCPMUN 2019 (model in which I achieved to obtain the best delegate in the UNESCO committee), DLSMUN (2018-2019), MUNSALLE (2017-2019), BOGMUN (2019), AQPMUN (2018-2019), among others, in which, most of them, I was able to obtain various awards. I’ve debated more in the DISEC committee, but I also have experience in the UNICEF committee, so I really hope and trust this model would be a great experience and full of learning for all of you and also for me.
I love debating about controversial topics and the “Challenges towards virtual education” without a doubt, today it is considered one of them. Since the coronavirus pandemic started to spread in every corner of the world, governments had to take strict measures to prevent the spread of the virus among the population. As you must know, one of these measures was the remote education, which us as students can experience how different and complex this new modality sometimes can be. Despite all the complications that we may have, there are children around the world who do not even have access to virtual education, either due to the lack of internet connectivity or due to the lack of money to pay it because of the economical crisis; the carelessness of governments; etc. As your moderator I expect all of you would be able to find and propose feasible and realistic solutions, especially for the most vulnerable children who have been really affected because of the COVID-19. Take into account to always consider representing the true position of your country, develop your soft skills and master the topic. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, I will gladly help you to solve them. Can’t wait to see you all!
UNICEF moderator.
